Destroying the Monster called Poverty
Poverty is a monster that breeds shame and disgrace. It is an ape that has killed the vision of many, strangled their hope and frustrated their effort. It rubs men of glory and honour. Poverty leaves her victims in pains, sorrow and tears. Dominion and majesty are far from the poor. The devil afflicts the church with poverty to rub her of her enviable destiny. It appears that the world is ruling the church today because of poverty that is why the church should find a lasting solution to this terrible monster.
Poverty originates from the mind, defeats the will and establishes dominion over man. In Deuteronomy 28:15-17 the Bible says, “But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field. Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store – AKJV.
Listen to the wisest man that ever lived in Prov 10:15, “ The rich man’s wealth is his strong city the destruction of the poor is their poverty” – MED
THE NATURE OF POVERTY
“ How long will you lie there, you lazy bum? When will you get up from your sleep? Just a little sleep, just a little slumber, just a little nap. Then your poverty will come to you like a drifter, and your need will come to you like a bandit” – Proverbs 6:9-1
What God described in Deut 28: 15-17 & vs31 is poverty. Poverty possesses a terrible nature that is why nobody should befriend him.
- Poverty is the work of the devil
- It destroys
- It has no mercy
- It’s aggressive
- It kills dignity and honour
- Poverty facilitates timidity
- It reduces men to nothing
- It sponsors limitation and sponsors failure.
For years, Satan has deceived the church that poverty is noble. He has tried to convince Christians that poverty will make them holy. He emphasizes that it’s God way of teaching His children lessons. Millions has been taken in by this deception. In fact, in some way those lies have affected all of us, that is why it’s so important for us to go back to the Word of God and find out what it has to say about this subject.
God does not use poverty to teach a lesson, He has many other ways to do that if He wants, that idea is religious. There is one purpose for poverty, and that can be seen in Deut 28: 20, “For the Lord himself will send his personal curse upon you. You will be confused and a failure in everything you do, until at last you are destroyed because of the sin of forsaking him”- TLB. Curse is meant to destroy, not to teach people lessons, nor to make them more spiritual – Proverbs 10: 15. Be wise!
