LUKE 18:18
*Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?*
This is the most important question everyone of us should be asking ourselves everyday.
*What shall I do to inherit eternal life?*
This is the most important question that will help us to address many issues of life.
It may be easy for us to learn trade or handwork or to go to schools to study ways to improve our living standard.
But we must bear it in mind that we doesn’t belong to the earth.
And we must always enquire to know how to get to our father’s home.
The adventures of life are motivated by visions, dreams and revelations about life’s true meaning and purpose.
Oftentimes we ask ourselves questions like, *what shall I do to make more money?*
*What shall I do to grow my business?*
*What shall I do to build my own house?*
*What shall I do to become the richest man in town?*
*What shall I do to be this and what shall I do to be that?*
But most time we forget to ask ourselves the very most important question about life.
*What shall I do to inherit eternal life when I die*
Remember what Jesus said in Luke 12:15…
*Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses*
What this means is that there are more to life than riches and glory.
Remember also that we are strangers on earth and no matter your earthly possessions of gold and silver, one day you will have no use of them.
Now when the ruler asked Jesus good master *what shall I do to inherit eternal life* .
I expected Jesus to tell him to support his ministry with his riches or to build a temple for the church of God or to make financial donations of seed, tithes and offerings, but no.
Jesus said to him in verse 22..
“ *You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me*
Compare also Luke 9:23..
*If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me*
This is the answer to the one million dollar question *TAKE UP YOUR CROSS AND FOLLOW ME*
God appreciates your financial donations for the work of the kingdom, but he prefers you as the living sacrifice unto Him.
Jesus did not die for sinners to sow seeds into the work of God.
*But he died to reconcile sinners to God, He died to win souls for the kingdom*
